Stormwater Industry Association (NZ) Committee SIA REGIONAL COMMITTEES IN NSW Regional SIA Committees are being formed in the following NSW Regions, with the following local members agreeing to act as Convenors to assist this process. Convenor: Gary Anderson, email: ganderson@iprimus.com.au 2. Central Coast Region. Convenor: Ian Joliffe, email: Ian_B_Joliffe@ghd.com.au 3. Central West Region. Convenor: Ray Tickle, email: rayt@dubbo.nsw.gov.au 4. South East Region. Convenor: James Murray, email: council@begavalley.nsw.gov.au 5. South Coast. Convenor: Mark Babister, email: babister@webbmckeown.com.au 6. Canberra. Convenor: Steve Bresnan, email: steve.bresnan@act.gov.au BENEFITS OF THE REGIONAL COMMITTEE STRUCTURE The long term benefits for better stormwater management in regional areas is considerable, considering the influence the SIA has been able to bring to government, industry and the community during its 10 years of operation mainly in the urban cities of Australia. Because the SIA is a national organization, with associations operating in each State of Australia, it is represented on many advisory bodies and committees, and makes many submissions to government on policy and management. By extending its committee structure to Regional areas, the advisory and consultative role will expand, and a better catchment management outcome will eventuate. The SIA has taken a positive education role for both industry and the community. An extensive program of seminars and workshops are held during the year, but they are generally confined to major cities. By forming regional groups, many of these presentations can be brought to members in their locality because of better coordination and cost effective management. The Regional Committee structure means there is direct communication to the SIA State Association Committees, providing enhanced feed back of regional issues, and a more effective input into policy formulation, submissions to government, and proactive action on issues. Most importantly, the Regional Committee structure with its member meetings, provides excellent opportunities for local networking and discussion for all players and stakeholders who have interests in stormwater management. Such interests can be galvanised by occasionally holding a Trade Exhibition and Seminar program within the region, which will attract many members from the Regional locality. The NSW Association is calling upon all interested members in regional areas who would like to be kept informed about a committee in their area, or who would like to attend a meeting or be active on a committee, to please contact the relevant Convenor in their Region listed above. Any members wishing to obtain further information prior to contacting the Convenor, can contact Bronwyn Davies, Administrative Officer, SIA NSW for a copy of the draft Regional Committee Protocol (phone 9810 7805 - email: info@stormwater.asn.au ).
